Franchising USA: franchises of shops and services in an American shopping street

Franchising USA: 6 models to be evaluated in October, and a brand looking for a partner in Italy

Managing a business in the United States, investing with local management or developing an American brand in Italy. The choice depends on the role the investor wants to take on, before even the brand.

The franchising between the United States and Italy is opening up opportunities in both directions: American brands looking for partners to expand into Europe and Italian entrepreneurs interested in investing in the USA through already structured models.

With this article, we inaugurate the USA Franchising Observatory of Link2America: a weekly event dedicated to opportunities to explore, numbers to verify, and conditions that can make a difference in the choice of an investment.

Every fifteen days we will analyze new opportunities through three fixed macroareas:

  1. Moving to the USA and managing it in person.
  2. Investing in the USA by entrusting the management to a local manager.
  3. Bringing an American brand to Italy.

For each area we will present up to two opportunities, When available and consistent with our selection criteria, highlighting economic requirements, operational characteristics, and points to check. Selection will prioritize the relevance of models: if a category does not offer adequate opportunities, we will highlight it.

The goal is to offer Italian and European investors a concrete basis to orient themselves and identify projects that are consistent with their resources and ambitions.

Growing opportunities, numbers to be verified

Two October reports show why these opportunities require careful evaluation.

Captain D’s, an American chain of restaurants specializing in fish with over 530 locations in 23 states, has announced a development mission in Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. Among these markets, Italy is the one with the most advanced negotiations.

In the same days, the Federal Trade Commission settled the case against the franchisor for $1.85 million. Premier Martial Arts, accused of presenting profit prospects with a limited weekly commitment without adequate foundation.

Commercial interest is a starting point. The quality of the investment depends on verifying the model, the numbers, and the operational conditions.

Before choosing the brand, choose the strategy

With approximately 4,000 brands available in the United States, the first step consists of defining which activity is consistent with the investor’s capital, goals, and involvement.

The first selection in October includes six models:

MacroareaObjectiveSelected models
Direct management in the USAMoving and running the business every dayTint World, Uptown Cheapskate
Management entrusted to a managerInvesting while maintaining supervision and controlSYNERGY HomeCare, British Swim School
Development of a brand in ItalyAcquiring territorial rights and building a networkExit Factor, Captain D’s

For each selection, we examine the available information in Franchise Disclosure Document — FDD, We cross-check development data and news and identify the patterns that merit further investigation for a European investor.

This analysis provides a first reading of the opportunities. The final assessment requires the updated FDD, a comparison with the franchisor, and the input of specialized professionals.

1. Moving to the USA and managing it in person

Direct management is suitable for those who want to build an operational presence in the USA and take on the daily responsibility for sales, personnel, and results.

The openness to foreign investors must be confirmed with each franchisor. The project can also be evaluated within the framework of the Visa E-2, Depending on the characteristics of the investment and the applicable requirements.

Tint World Specialized services for cars

Indicative investment: 214,000–401,000 €

Based in Boca Raton, Tint World operates in the film for glass, protection and treatment for cars. In 2025, the network exceeded for the first time 100 million dollars in revenue.

The element of interest is the availability of economic data to be explored: the best half of the centers registers average revenues of approximately 946.000 €, With an operating margin of approximately 236.000 €.

The distinction is crucial: these results concern the centers with the best performance. To evaluate a new investment, it is necessary to understand the conditions that made them possible, from the commercial position to the team’s capabilities.

Point to check: transferability of the results to the chosen territory and financial soundness of the investor. The required net worth is approximately €400,000.

Uptown Cheapskate |Quality used clothing

Indicative investment: 325,000–609,000 €

Uptown Cheapskate It has gone from 113 to 162 stores in three years. The published data indicate average revenues around 1.25 million euros and an average net profit of about 200.000 € for the store.

The model combines structured retail operations with specific expertise in purchasing, selection, and the promotion of clothing. With about ten employees per store, it requires concrete managerial presence.

Point to check: Supply capacity, inventory management, and the overall capital required. The high end of the investment requires a significant budget.

2. Invest in the USA by entrusting the management to a local manager

The models semi-absentee They stipulate that day-to-day management is entrusted to a manager, while the owner maintains economic supervision and strategic direction.

Their sustainability depends on the quality of the manager, the control systems, and the ability of the business to absorb the costs of the structure.

Delegating management requires an organization capable of making problems, results, and decisions visible. The indications regarding the hours of work of the owner should be verified with existing affiliates, taking into account the start-up phase.

SYNERGY HomeCare | Home-based assistance for the elderly

Indicative investment: €111,000–186,000 for two territories

Active since 1999, SYNERGY HomeCare It has over 600 territories. In the FDD 2026, operators with more territories report average revenues of approximately 1.89 million euros, Compared to 1.16 million for those with only one territory.

The data make the analysis of a structure across multiple areas interesting, but it also requires comparing costs, organizational complexity, and the characteristics of the operators included in the sample.

The presence of an approved manager in the office is required.

Point to check: availability and turnover of assistants, licensing requirements in individual states, and the capabilities of the local management.

British Swim School |Swimming lessons for children

Indicative investment: 109,000–157,000 €

British Swim School It uses hotel pools and gyms rented by the hour. This arrangement avoids the purchase or construction of its own pool and limits the infrastructure investment.

In 2026, the brand entered the Inc. 5000 ranking of the fastest growing American companies.

The economic evaluation must take into account a 10% royalty, Low unit costs and availability of suitable facilities in the territory.

Point to check: the convenience of developing on multiple territories, the cost of space, and the sustainability of the margin after personnel, royalties, and management.

3. Bringing an American brand to Italy

The franchise master requires a different entrepreneurial perspective: acquiring territorial rights, adapting the model to the Italian market and building an organization capable of developing the network.

The agreement may include a pilot phase and subsequent expansion objectives. Rights, exclusivity, investments and development obligations must be negotiated and evaluated in light of Italian franchising regulations.

Exit Factor |Consulting for the sale of SMEs

Availability indicated: Italy not yet assigned

Exit Factor supports the owners in the preparation and sale of their business.

The model addresses a relevant need in the Italian market: the generational transition and the continuity of SMEs when the founder approaches retirement.

In 2026, the group that controls the brand signed master agreements in Ireland and the Czech Republic, after the United Kingdom.

Point to check: adaptability of the service to Italian SMEs and the framework within which the activities are carried out, including any requirements for mediation.

Captain D’s | Fast food specializing in fish

Availability indicated: search for a master partner for Italy

Captain D’s It is developing negotiations to enter the Italian market. The availability of the territory must therefore be confirmed directly with the franchisor.

American restaurants report average revenues of approximately 1 million euros, While the investment per single location exceeds one million.

The Italian evaluation must start with product, price, location, and cost structure. The acceptance of the format by the local public is a key variable.

Point to check: sustainability of a pilot project and the necessary capital to comply with any network development commitments.

From selection to decision

A recognizable brand, a growing network, and interesting economic results are useful elements. To make a decision, you also need to answer specific questions:

  • Which units are included in the economic data and how comparable are they to the project?
  • What capital is needed to achieve operational balance?
  • How much do the results depend on the presence of the owner?
  • Which contractual obligations affect margins, development, and exit from the investment?
  • What emerges from the comparison with current and former affiliates?

An opportunity deserves to be explored in depth when its assumptions are understandable, verifiable, and consistent with the investor’s resources.
